Custom Wine Cellar in Dalton, Pennsylvania
This Dalton wine cellar transformed the fieldstone basement of an older home into a dedicated space for storing and enjoying an extensive wine collection.
Carriage Barn Custom Builders designed and built storage for approximately 1,000 bottles of red wine and 1,000 bottles of white wine, incorporated the necessary cooling equipment, and remodeled the basement around the way the finished space would actually be used.
The project also included a custom door with a concealed latch, adding an intentionally unexpected detail to the completed cellar.

Working Within an Existing Fieldstone Basement
This wine cellar began inside an older Dalton home with an existing fieldstone basement and a layout that needed to accommodate a substantial wine collection.
Rather than treating the basement as a blank space, the project was planned around the conditions already present. Carriage Barn incorporated custom wine storage and cooling equipment while reshaping the basement into a finished space the homeowners could use and enjoy.
The project shows how an older-home renovation can preserve the character of an existing space while adapting it for a highly specific new use.
Custom Wine Storage and a Concealed-Latch Door
The finished cellar was designed around a substantial wine collection, with custom storage built for approximately 1,000 bottles of red wine and 1,000 bottles of white wine.
Cooling equipment was incorporated into the renovated basement so the storage system and finished room could function together as one complete space.
One of the project’s most distinctive details is the custom door with a concealed latch. The door is opened using a small pin, adding a hidden detail to a cellar already highly customized around the homeowners’ collection.
